Mount Design and Function Advanced Accreditation

Mal has passed the final of three advanced accreditations in Mount Design and Function.  In achieving this qualification Mal becomes the third UK framer to hold all three qualifications.  One of Mal's interests is border design accomplishing a number of border design based on mainly Arabic and Indian geometry.  In addition, he is interested in the traditional English ruled lines, wash and marbled panels introduced in during what is considered as the 'Golden Age of Watercolours' in the style of Paul Sandy(1730-1839), Thomas Girtin(1775-1802) and of course Turner(1775-1851); three artists who are accredited with the classical school of English water-colourists.

Mal continues to work on numerous designs some of which can be developed for a particular customer making their artwork unique.  This can be followed through with a theme for future work.

Ask Mal to describe the various options for corner designs as well as those for mount decoration.

Welcome to our new Harlequin arrived from Sorento this morning.  Taking pride of place in my workshop the ceramic Harlequin, that stands 780mm tall, was purchased whilst on holiday in Sorento in May of this year.

Positioned close to the door the Harlequin along with the Harlequin Barons welcomes customers to Harlequin Frames and offers our business card. 

Greatly privileged to work for Toni Watts, Artist in Residence bandit Lincoln Cathedral, framing her outstandingly exquisite work in preparation for her exhibition later this year.  To date I have framed around 12 pieces of work all comprising gold leaf and pigment paints some of which were sourced and ground into pigments by Toni.  Her work is extremely detailed and great care and attention to detail makes her work of a standard that only a few in this country could achieve.

I was especially honoured to be inducted into the Fine Art Trade Guild's Hall of Fame at the Guild's Awards Convention at Stratford upon Avon this last weekend(7th May 2016)  The citation read 'in recognition to services to the art and framing industry'

There are only six people who have received this accolade and I feel exceptionally proud, privileged and somewhat humbled to be considered amongst these industry elite.

HARLEQUIN BARONS

The Harlequin Barons have, today 16th January, been spotted making their way up Steep Hill(Lincoln) towards the Marine and Wildlife Studio where they will be dressed in their livery painted by wildlife artist Jenny Bell. 

To celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta by King John on 15th June 1215, a Charter Trail of 25 colourful Baron sculptures were positioned around the centre of Lincoln.  The Barons Trail proved to be extremely popular with both visitors and residents alike and to keep the spirit of the Magna Carta alive miniature replicas have been produced.  Many of these miniatures have been painted and adorn local shop windows.

A Conservation Study day will be held in the Guild HQ, Wye House, London on Wednesday 27 January 2016. This Study day will concentrate on the theory required to be successful in passing the Guild’s Advanced Accreditation in Conservation. Subjects to be covered include:

Conservation Framing Techniques.
Damage Mechanisms there identification and explanations.
Mountboard definitions and Uses.
General Conservation Definitions and Terminology.

In addition, there will be a short hands-on workshop on the hinging of artwork using Japanese papers.

Whilst this is primarily for those interested in taking the GCF and especially the Advanced Accreditation it is open to all who have an interest in Conservation Framing.
